About Us
What is Art Abilities?
Art Abilities is a non-profit committed to empowering neurodiverse individuals by supporting their creative expression through art.
Since 2022, we have championed adaptive art techniques, helping artists discover the styles and mediums that suit their abilities and unlock opportunities for financial independence. As our artists develop their skills, they gain a sense of self-worth and confidence as they discover our supportive community.
Our inclusive environment seeks to be safe space open year round, five days a week, which ensures that everyone, regardless of ability, can explore their creative potential. We offer ample supplies and studio space; professional instruction and individualized mentoring; and community exhibition opportunities, all contributing to a unique, enriching experience.

A Word from Our Founder
I’m Ritika Kumar – founder and executive director of Art Abilities – a nonprofit that helps kids and adults with different abilities build creative expression using art as a medium.
I have been teaching art for the past 20 years. About three years ago, I started teaching art to people who are at a disadvantage, and my life changed. I knew art had healing qualities, but seeing the impact of personalized art in my students’ lives made me feel blissful and fulfilled.
Knowing that we can do much of this needed work at a larger scale, I founded Art Abilities to take this work to a national level. As every big thing starts small, our current scope of work is Monterey county, but as we grow, we will expand to a state level and beyond.
Thank you for joining me on this journey and for your support.
